Arrival and Departure
Students who do not ride a school bus are to arrive at school no earlier than 7:45a.m. Although we provide a safe, supervised space for students who arrive at 7:45, we have no way to provide for students who arrive earlier. Students wishing to meet with a teacher for extra help should have a pass from that teacher or get a pass from the receptionist in the main office.
After school, students are asked to leave the building no later than 3:30 p.m. unless they are staying after school for a school sponsored and supervised activity. Access to academic areas will be restricted after that time. Students are not allowed in the building after 3:30 p.m., unless supervised by an adult. If there are special circumstances, which prevent the student from being picked up by 3:30 p.m., we ask that a parent/guardian call the office and make arrangements.

STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP PROCEDURES
To provide a safe drop off and pick up zone in front of school, the direction of traffic is one-way as indicated by the painted arrows on the pavement. As you enter and exit, drive slowly with caution, as students walking to and from school will cross traffic lanes. Please remind your child to look before walking across traffic lanes, and if a designee is transporting your child, please share this information with them as well. No vehicles, except buses, are allowed in the back of the school for student drop off or pick up.
When vehicles arrive to safety zone on first street, left hand turns are prohibited. All vehicles are required to travel east to the Bob Cross parking lot to make a u-turn. All entrance to the safety zone is required to be by right hand turn. If the safety zone is full, cars should park along the right shoulder of the road until the line opens up. Note: The overflow safety zone waiting area on first street is NOT for student pick-up. Vehicles are required to move into the safety zone to pick up your student. See diagram above.
In the morning, students are to be dropped off using both the right lane and left lane, and the middle lane is to be used to exit after dropping students off. Students who exit vehicles in the left lane need to look both ways before crossing. Vehicles exiting in the middle lane need to do so with caution. TIP: When space is available, please move as far forward as possible. This will help with traffic flow.
After school, students are to be picked up at the door associated with their grade level (6th– door #4, 7th– door #1, 8th – door #3). The outside lanes are to be used for drivers who are waiting in their vehicles to pick up a student. The middle lane is to be left open at all times to exit after picking up a student. Various times of the year bring an increase in the number of vehicles transporting students. Everyone must exercise patience.
Please keep these important safety issues in mind, and share this information with others who may be transporting your child.
Safety Zone Summary Notes
- Enter the safety zone only after a u-turn and using the right lane.
- If zone is full, park on the right hand shoulder of 1st street.
- Once entered the safety zone, pull as far forward as possible before parking.
- Park in either the right or left lane to pick up student.
- When your student is in vehicle, proceed to exit the safety zone SLOWLY and with extreme caution using the middle lane. Note: Students will be crossing traffic.
Stay patient, use caution and share these procedures with anyone who might use the safety zone at Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School.
Late Arrivals and Early Release
If you leave the building because of illness or any other reason, you must sign out in the main office.
Attendance Policy
Attendance is essential to the educational success of students at Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School. Daily attendance is required through Minnesota State Law for all school age children. The responsibility for regular attendance of the student lies with the student and the parent/guardian.
Students are expected to attend and arrive on time to all classes. Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School is a closed campus and no student will be allowed to leave the building without prior approval. For attendance purposes, “day” includes absence from one or more class periods during the school day.
7 Days Excused Absences Per Trimester
Once a student has 7 absences during a trimester, all future absences will be considered unexcused unless medical documentation, signed by a health care provider for the full absence, is presented to the school.
3 Days Unexcused Absence
After the 3rd unexcused absence is recorded, contact will be made with the student and his/her parent/guardian to review attendance records and requirements.
7 Days Unexcused Absence
The school has legal responsibility to refer students who have 7 or more unexcused absences from school to County Human Services and/or the County Attorney’s office. Benton, Stearns, and Sherburne counties all have truancy programs with different criteria. The Sauk Rapids-Rice Middle School will follow county guidelines with regard to unexcused absences/truancy.
