Providing schools that are safe, disciplined and caring will help all students, staff, and families be successful in the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District. Staff and resources are available throughout the District to assist with preventing and addressing bullying as we continue to ensure a climate and culture of safety and respect.
In addition, we believe that educating students and adults about bullying is critical to our success in Sauk Rapids-Rice schools, the District and our Community. Student Education
Each school incorporates developmentally appropriate programmatic instruction into its curriculum to help students identify, prevent, and reduce bullying and to create a safe learning environment. Building principals determine the scope and duration of the units of instruction and topics covered, which include evidence-based social-emotional learning to prevent and reduce discrimination and other improper conduct to engage all students in creating a safe and supportive environment.
Roles of Students, School Personnel and Volunteers
Students:
- Work collaboratively and engage with District staff to create a safe and supportive school environment
- Help develop and implement prevention and intervention programs
- Be knowledgeable about and in compliance with current programming efforts and policies related to bullying
- Report incidents of bullying and other prohibited conduct to the schools’ primary contact person
- Advocate for yourself and others in respectful ways
- Foster collaboration that, in turn, encourages a safe and supportive school climate
School Personnel:
- Engage all students in creating a safe and supportive school environment
- Partner with parents and community members to develop and implement prevention and intervention programs
- Engage students and adults in integrating education, intervention, and other remedial responses into the school environment
- Train student bystanders to intervene in and report incidents of bullying and other prohibited conduct to the schools’ primary contact person
- Teach students to advocate for themselves and others
- Prevent inappropriate referrals to special education of students who may engage in bullying or other prohibited conduct
- Foster student collaboration that, in turn, encourages a safe and supportive school climate
Volunteers:
- Participate in creating a safe and supportive school environment
- Partner with parents, staff, and community members to develop and implement prevention and intervention programs
- Help to integrate education, intervention, and other remedial responses into the school environment
- Report incidents of bullying and other prohibited conduct to the schools’ primary contact person
- Help students to advocate for themselves and others
- Foster collaboration that, in turn, encourages a safe and supportive school climate
Remedial Actions May Include
For the student harmed:
- Protect, support and intervene on behalf of the student who is the target of the prohibited conduct.
- Support may also include such things as a referral to student support staff or social skills training; check-in and/or check-out system, or the choice to participate in a restorative process facilitated by a staff member.
For a student who violated the prohibited conduct policy:
- Personnel may use multi-tiered levels of response that are individualized, consistent, reasonable, fair, age-appropriate and that match the severity of the student’s behavior and developmental age. Consequences must be a natural and logical match to the prohibited behavior; consequences must be paired with meaningful guidance and/or direction; and must be carefully planned with well-defined outcomes.

Designated Staff Member by Building
Principals and/or building designees design and implement remedial measures to correct problematic behavior, prevent occurrences of the problem, protect and provide support for targets of bullying, and take corrective action for documented systemic problems.
