Food Service News for District Families and Students
On Monday, September 21, the Sauk Rapids-Rice Board of Education approved the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food Waiver that allows free meals for all early childhood through grade 12 students in school. This free lunch program began on Tuesday, September 22, 2020, and will run until the funding from the USDA runs out. This is a federal program and all Sauk Rapids-Rice early childhood through grade 12 students will receive free lunches regardless of the learning model they are participating in. Federal funding is projected to last until December 31, 2020, but may be depleted sooner. The district will send a Skylert notification to all families every two weeks to update the status of the funding, let families know when the funding runs out and when the district will begin charging families for student lunches. Unlike last spring, this program is only for students enrolled in the district’s early childhood through grade 12 schools.
