As the Internet demand for distance learning resources surges across the state and country, some apps and websites are having intermittent connectivity problems. This morning, Schoology and Seesaw were having such issues. While these may continue, we believe service will improve. Access the Schoology and Seesaw pages for status updates:
Thank you for your patience and understanding.
ISD 47 will take direction from the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) involving coronavirus (COVID-19). ISD 47 has primary responsibility for the health and safety of its students and employees in school. Therefore, ISD 47 will react promptly and decisively to assure the good health and safety of those individuals should the need arise.
In the event of a school or district closure, ISD 47 will provide instruction to students in all affected grades. This will primarily be accomplished through the use of online learning by means of district-issued devices such as a Macbook or iPad.
Message from Superintendent Sinclair, March 29, 2020, HERE.
It is important to note that distance learning is not the same as eLearning days. eLearning days are intended to counter the loss of curriculum momentum resulting from school cancellations due to Minnesota’s winter weather. eLearning days cannot replace the face-to-face time students have with their teachers but it can provide better continuity when school is temporarily interrupted. eLearning days also negate the need for makeup school days in June, helping families more effectively plan summer activities.
Distance learning, however, may be a school district’s response to longer school closures. During these kinds of school closures, ISD 47 intends to provide instruction to all students. This will require the full cooperation of students, teachers and parents to make this instruction meaningful and in compliance with the full expectations of Minnesota statutes.
Following an Executive Order 20-02 issued by Governor Walz, schools are closed until March 27, 2020. On Wednesday, March 25, Governor Tim Walz issued another executive order that Minnesota Public Schools implement distance learning. Sauk Rapids-Rice Public Schools will begin distance learning for all E-12 students on Monday, March 30, 2020, through Monday, May 4, 2020.
The Minnesota Department of Education states, “Students engaging in distance learning have access to appropriate educational materials and receive daily interaction with their licensed teachers.”
The purpose of this equitable distance learning plan is to explain how ISD 47 will implement distance learning in a format that can be equitably accessed by all students. This plan for addressing any coronavirus (COVID-19) incident is intended to serve the best interests of students, employees and families.
