| 2007 Operating Levy Referendum
On
November 6, 2007, voters in the Sauk Rapids-Rice Public School will be
asked to consider the approval of a $700 per student operating levy
which would generate nearly 2.8 million dollars in each of the next ten
years. These dollars would be available in the 2008-2009 school year
and will be directed to instructional support and improvement.
The district, among the most poorly funded in the state, cut over 2
million dollars from this year’s program in order to balance the
budget. The state has provided a 1% funding increase for next year.
With that, the district faces similar cuts for the 2008-2009 school
year if the levy is not approved. Over the past ten years, the state
has increased the funding formula by an average of 2% a year. Inflation
during that same period was over 3% a year.
It is the
responsibility of the district to prepare students to live and compete
in the 21st century. Adequate resources are necessary to hire staff and
run needed programs | |
