How to Join STEPS

The first thing a student and/or a parent should do if interested in STEPS is to call the counseling office. Our counselors are well prepared and knowledgeable about the STEPS program and can answer all of your questions about STEPS. They are also the best qualified to know if STEPS would be a good option for a specific student.

Most of the STEPS students have been directed to the STEPS program by their counselors. All of the students who are placed in STEPS must meet the required state criteria in order to be accepted into the program. When the students are identified, their names are brought to the SIRG committee – a group of counselors, administrators, school psychologists, school nurse, chemical support expert and a STEPS representative. The SIRG Committee meets every two weeks to discuss many important topics including making decisions about who meets the requirements for STEPS and who would be successful in STEPS.
