How Does STEPS Help Students?
The STEPS program is based on the premise that in order for our students to be successful, we must create a safe and caring environment where students feel they can learn. We have a “zero tolerance for disrespect” policy that is the basis for building a safe community for learners. STEPS also has a strict attendance policy and each student is required to maintain a minimum amount of classes in order to remain in the program.
STEPS also believe that in order for our students to grow as a healthy individual in our community, we should get involved in our community. We carry out two or three community projects each year–including STEPS Adopt a Family for Christmas Project where we earn enough money each year in order to adopt between four and eight families and provide them a nice holiday. We also offer some volunteer opportunities and have a fish fry in March for a cause of our student’s choosing.
