Sauk Rapids-Rice High School 2009 Top Ten  | Carly Braun is the daughter of Tony and Lisa Braun of Sauk Rapids. Carly was captain of the gymnastics and track and field teams. In addition, she was a member of National Honor Society, Project for Teens, and LINK freshman transition program. Carly served as a member of the school’s Shared Decision Committee, representing the student voice and was a proud member of the Weekday News crew. Carly will be attending Hamline University to pursue a career in physical therapy and to run for the track and field team.
|  | Kathryn Campbell is the daughter of Scott and Deb Campbell of Sauk Rapids. Kathryn actively pursued music in her high school years, participating in wind ensemble, jazz band, pit orchestra, pep band, and marching band. Adding to her music activities, she was a member of National Honor Society, LINK freshman transition program, and the speech team. Outside of school, Kathryn has played a primary role in her church youth program, helping to start a youth band and choir there. Kathryn will be attending Concordia College to pursue majors in mass communication and journalism.
| | Elise Frischmann is the daughter of John and Nancy Frischmann of Kimball. Elise played volleyball at school and was a member of Granite City Junior Olympic Volleyball. She was also a member of National Honor Society, LINK freshman transition program, and Service Club. An avid musician, Elise was involved in concert band, wind ensemble, jazz band, pit orchestra, pep band, and marching band. Elise will be attending Gustavus Adolphus College.
| | Richard Kirchner is the son of Barbara Kirchner of Sauk Rapids and the late Daniel Kirchner. Richard’s leadership roles included vice president of Sauk Rapids-Rice High School’s DECA marketing association, LINK freshman transition program leader, and treasurer of the Mayhew Lakers 4-H club. He was also a National Honor Society member and player on the school’s soccer team. Richard will be attending Saint John’s University in Collegeville to begin his pre-engineering education.
| | Zachary Leyk is the son of Brian and Colleen Leyk of Sauk Rapids. Zachary played football and basketball for the Storm. He was a member of National Honor Society. An active member in the community, Zachary volunteered with youth football, basketball, and Kids Against Hunger. Zachary is an avid outdoors man and is currently employed by the City of Saint Cloud Media Division as a videographer. He will be attending North Dakota State University to pursue a degree in electrical engineering.
|  | Emily Murphy is the daughter of Dan and Sandi Murphy of Rice. Emily has spent her high school years committed to academic excellence and to her pursuit of the arts. She participated in drama and choir for four years and was president of both . She enjoys volunteering at a nursing home and working at her waitressing job. She plans on attending either Concordia College or The College of Saint Scholastica to study pre-medicine. Eventually she will attend medical school to prepare for a career as a surgeon.
| | Amy Skroch is the daughter of Mark and Pam Skroch of Rice. Amy is an active participant in the music program at SRRHS and has participated in marching band, jazz band, wind ensemble, pep band, and pit orchestra. She was a also a member of National Honor Society, FFA, and the speech team. Amy lives on a farm and loves being outdoors doing farm work. She will be attending The College of Saint Scholastica for a degree in nursing, possibly furthering her education to become a physician.
| | Leah Timm is the daughter of the Reverend Bruce Timm and Valerie Timm of Sauk Rapids. Leah’s numerous activities included band, pit orchestra, wind ensemble, choir, National Honor Society, IMPROV, and LINK freshman transition team. She also participated in Minnesota Girl’s State, Central Lakes Conference Honors Band, University of Minnesota, Duluth Honors Band, and the Redeemer Lutheran Church hand bell choir and youth group. Leah was a D.A.R.E role model and a participant in Twin Rivers Community Theatre. She will attend Concordia College in Saint Paul to pursue double majors in psychology and criminal justice with a possible minor in music. After this, she may attend law school.
| | Rebecca Varoga is the daughter of Ken and Lana Varoga of Sauk Rapids. At Sauk Rapids-Rice High School, Rebecca participated in marching band, pep band, concert band, LINK freshman transition program, and National Honor Society. She currently works at Cub Foods. Rebecca plans to attend The College of Saint Scholastica to pursue majors in pre-veterinary medicine and biology.
| | Jennifer Warnert is the daughter of Bruce and Jacqueline Warnert of Sauk Rapids. Jennifer was an active member of Students Against Destructive Decisions for all four years of high school. In addition, she was a member of National Honor Society and LINK freshman transition program. Jennifer is a National Merit Scholarship finalist who will be attending Harding University in Searcy, Arkansas where she will major in either physics or engineering and pursue a career that helps others and helps her grow in her faith.
