ER Reading

During the first 20 minutes of each Reading ER period choose one of the following:

  • Puzzles and games
  • Fluency
  • Current Events
  • Comprehension and Skill Work

Aim to do each area an equal amount of time throughout the year. 
Try to avoid doing any one of the four areas multiple times in a row.

First 20 Minutes:

Teen Newsweek- Posts the cover story from each issue. Published every other week. Comprehension questions are included. Previous issues archived.
Time for Kids- Time publishes multiple magazines for different grade levels. Articles can be viewed and printed. Reproducibles and teachers guides are available.
USA Weekend- Activities for the USA Weekend magazine delivered with Sunday’s paper.
USA Today – Being delivered to each house. Daily activities to use with the newspaper are online each day.
Scholastic Teacher- Online Reading Activities for students. Targeted at different reading levels.
Smithsonian Education- Articles on timely topics.  Some include comprehension questions and other related activities.Use these with a worksheet, discussion, or to work on vocabulary.
Graphic organizers and worksheets
WJON- News page has short, one paragraph stories from local news.
