The media center opens at 7:30am and closes at 4:00pm Monday through Thursday, and 3:30pm on Friday.
The computer labs open each day at 7:45am and remain open until 3:15pm.
Materials Information
What resources are available?
Books – Fiction, Story Collection, Non-Fiction, and Reference; Magazines; VHS Videotapes; Kits; CDROM; Online databases using the Internet; Sound recordings; and textbooks.
How many items may I check out and for how long?
You may check out up to 7 items at one time, books for 3 weeks, magazines for 3 days, and other items for 1 day. Reference books must remain in the media center.
Why can I not check out a reference book?
Reference material is used by multiple classes doing research, and must remain available for that purpose. A copy machine is available at a per copy cost of $.10, and may be used to copy an item from a book without copyright infringement.
Why do I need my ID card to check out materials?
Your ID card has a barcode that is unique to you, and when it is scanned will assign those materials to you. You are then responsible for those items.
Computer Use Information
I do not have a Mac at home, how may I work on a document both at home on my PC as well as at school?
If this is an issue for you, you may do one of two things. First, we have Microsoft Office on the media and lab computers, so any Word, PowerPoint, or Excel program will work in both platforms. Save your documents on a storage device that is formatted PC, and you will be able to open it here. The other alternative is to install Appleworks at home on your PC or Mac. The district is licensed to make the program available to any student in the district. The CD to install Appleworks is available in the media center for overnight checkout. If you use a different word processing application, save the document in a TEXT format, and you will be able to open it at school with either Word or Appleworks.
How do I search a topic that I need for class?
There are two methods which can be used in a browser like Firefox or Safari, or Internet Explorer on a PC from home. Preferably, you will use one of the on-line resources that the school district provides for accessing valid information. This is available through the Research Tab on the media center homepage. The last resort is to use one of the many search engines available, such as Google, Yahoo, etc. These search engines bring multiple web sites to access, not all of which may be valid, reliable information.
