Art

“Adding beauty to our lives, one project at a time.”

Welcome to the Sauk Rapids-Rice High School Art Program.

The basic art course prepares students for the advance courses. The emphasis is on the art elements and art principles. We look at things in depth, with our final goal being a process of compositional improvement.

From there, the curriculum branches off into three areas: advanced drawing, painting, and commercial graphic arts. Here students get the opportunity to grow through creative experiences and advanced medium techniques.

If two-dimensional art is not a desireable option, perhaps ceramics with its hands-on approach is. This portion of the curriculum involves different methods of working with clay: coil, slab, and wheel methods. Glaze, underglaze, and drybrush techniques add a luster for a finishing touch.

An advance painting/ceramic class is being added to the curriculum for those students who would like to have the opportunity to increase their knowledge of the mediums.

“Ironically, we create art as an extension of our lives, and in turn art breathes life into our very existence.”
