Media Center
Mississippi Heights Media Center
Welcome to the Mississippi Heights elementary media center where students are frequent visitors and learning is actively pursued. Our media center is open to students and staff at all hours of the school day either through scheduled class periods or individual research visits. In the Sauk Rapids-Rice School District all of our media centers are a blend of print materials and technology.
Students in grades kindergarten through second grade come to the media center once a week for regularly scheduled class times. Grades three through five also visit with their teacher for scheduled media outcome classes and a separate book checkout time. Media classes develop the skills needed to access, process and communicate information in an information-rich society. Some of the skills taught are book care, literature appreciation, research, technology and multimedia presentations. Media lessons help students and staff become critical users of information.
The media program conducts events and activities that encourage independent reading. A computerized book-tracking system is available. Activities that promote media literacy are held throughout the year.
