Bus Safety
Keeping Our Children Safe
Hello everyone and welcome to the new school year!
Whether your bus rider is a Kindergartner or a senior in high school, please inform and remind them to stand at the bus stop, at least ten feet back from the area where the bus will stop. All approaches to the bus are to be directed by the driver. Student movement toward the bus can only be allowed when in response to the bus driver’s hand signal. Students are required to demonstrate their individual cooperation with this procedure to remain qualified for transportation privileges.
Make a plan with your student so both of you know what to do in the event of missing the bus. A frantic person running toward the bus stop or in pursuit of a moving vehicle is extremely dangerous. Being late to school is a tolerable consequence.
Neighborhood cul-de-sacs limit thru traffic, but often build a false sense of security in a child who has safely played in the cul-de-sac area. These areas often have inexperienced preschool children eager to greet the bus and younger students returning home from school. Please understand that school bus routing standards recommend that school buses avoid entering cul-de-sacs and turn arounds to the extent possible.
Parents are encouraged to monitor their children at bus stops. Many parents take turns with each other so as to provide daily supervision. Please report unsafe conditions or incidents to the Safety Management Office at 252-2828. Your call will be most appreciated.
