General Health Services

Health Services manages the health needs of students at 9 public and non-public buildings within District #47. The goal of Health Services is to create and sustain a school health system that promotes and supports student achievement, health and well-being. A Licensed School Nurse provides an array of services to students in each of these buildings, including:

  • vision screening in grades K – 5 & 7th grade
  • hearing screening in grades K – 5 & 8th grade
  • scoliosis screening to 5th & 6th grade girls
  • medication management
  • development/implementation of health care plans
  • first-aid and illness management

Day to day duties are delegated to trained Health Secretaries in seven of our nine buildings. Health Secretaries serve as extenders of the Licensed School Nurses by supporting the Nurses in the health office, performing health office clerical functions, caring for ill and injured students, and carrying out delegated nursing activities performed under the LSNs license (such as giving medications and/or nursing procedures). The school health team works with families, students and staff to promote a healthy and safe environment.
