Marching Storm Info

Dear Band Parents and Students,

During past two weeks, the 2010 Florida trip has been on many of our minds. Unfortunately, to date we still only have slightly more than 60 students showing interest in participating. This low number of student participants plus the imbalance of membership enrolled has caused us to pause the current course of action.

Information recently gathered leads me to believe that the Florida trip is too expensive for many of the traditional families of the MARCHING STORM. Our trips are created to include as many student participants as possible. To encourage this, a closer, less expensive trip is our next goal. I ask you to shift your commitment with me from Florida to Traverse City, Michigan as we move forward with our plans for 2010.

The National Cherry Festival is one of the premier parades in the nation. Traverse City loves the marching bands that come to their parade and they roll out the red carpet for all bands that visit their community. The expected price of this trip will come in under $400 per student. We will begin working on a tag-along option as well for parents.

I remain hopeful that more students will sign-up for the trip with this new destination and lower price. My experience is that about 80 or more members participating allows our band to make a competitive presentation in these kinds of parades. The trip is proposed from July 7-12. Please view the attached calendar for additional details regarding our adjusted season.

Sample Traverse City itinerary


The remaining season details can be found on a web site called www.charmsoffice.com.  This is the host site for all of our dynamic information we offer parents and students about the season.  Concerns about weather situations can be found in the announcements portion of the page.  Updates on calendar events can be found on the page.  Financial account information can be found on the page.  Forms and fundraising information can be found on the page.  We submit all handouts and announcements which are offered at practices to the charms website.  Please use it as often as you have questions.  Our goal is to keep you informed with the latest, most accurate information.

To log into charmsoffice.com, enter “srrhsband” in the student/parent login box on the main page.  This will take you to the general student access page.  To get further into the web page details, you must enter a specific password that is unique to each student.  To begin access, students will need to first register for summer marching band.  Your name, and basic info will be gleened from your registration form into the charms database.  Your password will be your formal first and last name without a space.  It is recommended that you change that password as soon as possible after you register.  Please contact Mr. Campbell if you have problems using charms.
