High School Choir
Welcome!!! This page is dedicated to offering you a detailed view of the many happenings in choir. You are encouraged to bookmark this page for easy access. General descriptions are offered for each ensemble and specific current events are also outlined for parents and student information. More information can also be found at www.srrmusic.com
Students at SRRHS CAN take choir all four years during high school and still satisfy their graduation requirements AND still have options to explore other curricular interests. Many choir students also find the rigor and challenge of AP courses to match their work ethic and post high school goals.
Should you have any questions regarding your ability to make things work with your schedule or your specific music goals, please see Mr. Hasty.
Varsity Choir, Grades 9-12
3rd Period – 3 trimesters – 1 credit each trimester
The Varsity Choir consists of students in grades 9-12 who exhibit the ability to match pitches with their voice, understand choral music, and have a basic understanding of music theory. The purpose of this choir is to prepare them to be better singers, to expose them to a high level of choral music, and to work heavily on proper vocal technique.
Students in the Varsity Choir are expected to show up for class ready to sing and learn. Singers learn some basic skills like sight-reading, pitch names, basic music theory, and small group singing. Members of the Varsity Choir will find a good balance of fun and music. Singers willing to work hard and have a good time singing while learning to apply proper vocal technique would fit perfectly in the Varsity Choir.

Treble Choir, Grade 10-12
Treble Choir will be open to treble (soprano and alto) voices in grades 10 through 12 who may or may not have had previous choral experience. Increased attention will be focused on tone, blend, balance, and intonation. Emphasis will be placed on a wide variety of women’s choir literature and reaching an advanced level of performance. The Treble Choir will be meeting 1st and 2nd trimesters this year and perform at the normally scheduled choral events.
Concert Choir, Grades 10-12
The Concert Choir consists of auditioned students in grades 10-12 who have a sincere interest in pursuing excellence in the choral setting. In order to sing in the Concert Choir, a student must be able to read music, exhibit some basic sight-reading skills, and have an entry-level understanding of musical theory. Students will be exposed to a diverse spectrum of choral literature as well as a more in-depth look at musical theory, sight-reading and melodic/rhythmic dictation.
Students in the Concert Choir are expected to attend rehearsals ready to learn and grow, not only in the learning of music, but also the development of their vocal abilities and understanding of music. The work ethic in the Concert Choir is very high, and sometimes very intense. Singers from this ensemble enjoy maintaining a high level of excellence and pursue improvement all the time. Members of this community find a good balance of hard work and achievement, concentration and enjoyment. Concert Choir participates in Large Group Contest and the CLC Festival. It is also the premier touring vocal ensemble. Anyone who has strong singing skills and wants to take part in a strong choral program would appreciate the SRRHS Concert Choir.
