Art Club

January-February for Grades 6-8

Art Club allows students the opportunity to explore art mediums and work on personal expression through their art works. Students meet after school one day a week from 3:15-4:30pm.

Drama Club

Runs end of February-March each year for Grades 6-8

Auditions for drama are held during the last full week in February with practices starting the following week.  Alternate audition times are available for students finishing up winter sports.

Participants will have a chance to act in school-day performances for elementary and SRRMS students, as well as evening performances for parents and the public the last week in March. Students involved can be on stage (unlimited numbers) or work behind the scenes (limited to 15).

Practices are held in the Community Arts Center (CAC), Monday – Friday, 3:05 – 5:15.

Knowledge Bowl

October-January for Grades 6-8
Teams of students compete against other schools in the area by answering questions similar to Trivial Pursuit with current events categories. The season runs from October through January and meets after school.

Math Counts

January-February for Grades 6-8
Students are provided the opportunity to explore different math concepts not normally covered in the regular classroom curriculum. Students prepare for an outside competition. Practices are announced.

Math Masters

January-March for Grade 6
This activity provides students an opportunity to increase math skills with a culmination for a math tournament with other schools. Practices are one day a week.

Newspaper

September-May for Grades 6-8
Students meet after school one day per week and work to put together and publish the school newspaper.

Science Olympiad

November-January or January-March for Grades 6-8
This is an after school activity for students to have fun with experiments in science. Practices are one day a week.

Speech Club

mid-December through mid-February for Grades 6-8
Students will have the chance to participate in different speech categories (humorous/serious interpretations, humorous/serious poetry, storytelling, creative expression, informative, original oratory, great speeches, extemporaneous speaking/reading and dramatic duo).  Students prepare and practice one speech that they will perform throughout the season.  Double entries (entering in more than one category) are allowed at some meets.

Practices are held 2 nights a week from 3:05 – 4:30 and students will attend speech meets with other schools.

Spelling Bee

For grades 5-8
This competition starts in the classroom, which leads to grade level winners. The winners advance to the District Spelling Bee. 3 representatives from Sauk Rapids-Rice will continue on from the District bee to the regional bee.

District Spelling Bee: Monday, February 6, 2012 at 6:30pm at SRR Middle School, CAC.

Regional Spelling Bee:  St. Johns University on February 15, 2012.

Student Council

All Year Activity for Grades 6-8
The students are elected by the student body to provide leadership and plan school wide activities.

WEB Leaders

All Year Activity for Grades 7-8
Students selected to be WEB leaders will help make SRRMS a safer and more welcoming place for all students. The students will receive training in leadership skills, and will help run the first day orientation program for sixth-graders and new students.
WEB leaders will also have a small group of students assigned to them to mentor throughout the year, and will work with a partner in leading activities for new students.

Yearbook
