Those were the winning words at the Sauk Rapids-Rice 2011 District Spelling Bee, which was held February 7 at the middle school. Thirty-six Sauk Rapids-Rice area students participated in the spelling bee, which went into eight rounds and covered 197 words.

Three students qualified for the Regional Spelling Bee. Emma Fedor, a fifth grade student, placed first. Maggie Lind, seventh grade, placed second and Tyler Jacobson, eighth grade, placed third.

All participants received prizes donated by area businesses including: the St. Cloud Eagles Club, Pizza Hut, Cororn’s, Subway, Burger King, and Papa Murphy’s. The three winners received trophies and dictionaries. As first place winner, Emma Fedor also received a lapel pin, a medallion, and a $100 saving bond from Bremer Bank.

The Regional Spelling Bee will be held at St. John’s University on February 23.  Regional winners will proceed to our State Spelling Bee. This is all part of the competition that leads up to Script’s National Spelling Bee, to be held in Washington D.C. in May.
